One of the many beers I got from my monthly trade with a friend back home on the east coast, this is Finback’s Oscillation 004. This is the fourth installment in a series of rotating IPAs dry hopped with different combination of hops. This particular version features Mosaic, Citra and Hallertau Blanc. Finback is right there with some of the other new hyped NYC breweries that people are really seeking out. Straight from Queens Oscillation 004 comes in at 8.5% ABV.
Appearance: Hazy glowing orange color with active carbonation. 1 finger head and some amazing lacing. I like the simple can design as well.
Nose: Super dank, fresh hop nugget nose. Ripe citrus fruits, tropical fruit, pineapple, lots of melon as well. Basically hitting on some major aromas of all three hops featured mosaic, citra and hallertau blanc. This is one of those beers you smell as soon as you crack the can.
Taste/Mouth: Sticky resiny feel with a good dose of bitterness up front. Has some nice sweet and fruity characteristics. Nice juicy full mouth feel with a hint of wheat as well. Has a super dry finish. Real drinkable and super juicy bomb.
Price/Availability: Finbacks beers aren’t the easiest to get right now and usually come with can limits and at a price.
Overall: Great first impression from Finback for me. Mosaic, citra and hallertau make for a stellar Double IPA. The more I get to have beers which feature Hallertau Blanc prominently the more I really enjoy the flavors and aromas it brings to beers. I would love to get my hands on more beers from Finback soon, and it would be great to try some more of this series.
