Beer Review: Trillium Double Dry Hopped Sleeper Street IPA

The final of the 4 beers I was able to grab when I visited Trillium is the one I was probably most excited about, Double Dry Hopped Sleeper Street. Like the rest of the “Street” beers this one showcases a single hop variety, Sleeper Street showcases El Dorado. They also had this on draft when I was at the brewery so I already knew what I was getting into grabbing one of these. DDH Sleeper Street comes in at 7.2% ABV.

Appearance: Turbid juice, yellowish orange color with a 1/2 finger head and some good lacing. Super hazy orange juice NE style IPA, you know the drill.

Nose: Holy pineapple. Fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, pineapple candy, pineapple everything. Orange juice, tangerine, mango, tropical fruits, peaches. It is also floral and earthy with some hints of freshly squeezed limes. Juice bomb for sure. I love pineapples so this beers nose is awesome.

Taste/Mouth: Follows the nose pretty closely. Orange, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, lime and tropical fruit bomb. Has a pine and woody feel with a small bite of bitterness but mostly just a juice bomb. Delicious and crushable IPA with so much depth of flavor. Finishes slightly bitter and sticky.

Price/Availability: I got a mixed 4 pack of cans at the brewery, a 4 pack of this is around $12 I believe.

Overall: The double dry hopped versions of the Trillium IPAs are their crown jewels. I haven’t had a chance to have all of their beers, or even close to all of them, but the DDH beers are some of their best offerings I have had a chance to try. DDH Sleeper Street possibly being my favorite Trillium beer to date (Galaxy Cutting Tiles was unreal as well). This is an incredible showcase of El Dorado, a hop that has been pushed aside lately by some newer varieties but has always been a favorite of mine and gets some well deserved time in the limelight again. Trillium seems to have perfected the NE style IPA and feels like the one brewery who will be able to maintain the best after this fad passes. DDH Sleeper Street earns a well deserved perfect score.

Grade: A+
